Windows 7 File Structure
The structure in Windows 7 and Windows Vista is a little bit different than Windows XP. In those operating systems, it was changed just a little bit to focus more on the organization of the files that you have in that operating system. Unfortunately Windows Explorer on Windows 7 x64 is still subject to this path limit. This gives the impression that the entire operating system has not overcome this limit, when really it is just Windows Explorer that has not been updated to work with longer paths. It is possible that a 3rd party file manager using. Jul 5, 2017 - In Windows 7 your files are found in C:UsersYourName, whilst on. Well, the file and folder structure of every popular operating system on the.
Something has happened to my fairly new LeNovo running Windows 7.Part of it I don't understand, and I have run several virus-checks, which did find viruses, but these have now been cleared.Windows is still very slow and sometimes hangs. The first thing that happened was a mistake I must have made while I was trying to set up some direct-accesses from the top level Documents folder. A large number of files started appearing in Documents (under libraries). I stopped trying to set direct accesses as soon as I noticed this. Now when I click on Documents (in Explorer) there is a long wait while the green line progresses in the explorer bar.
However I can click on My documents in the side-windo and the folder seems normal. In Documents there are hundreds of files but no folders (when looked at in the right-hand window). When I look at the names and dates they seem to be the same as documents I have in subdirectories of My Documents. When I look at the path the complete original path is shown - as if these files are not in Documents at all. I know this is not right because I have looked in another W7 machine which does not have any files other than the four standard folders. If I delete these files it seems I will be deleting the originals and in any case there are too many of them to select in batches- the right-hand pane does not show any folders at the top of the list There are about 80 DirectAccess files, not ones which I tried to put in. There are some files of type Active Server Page. And many files which I recognise, whose path is shown. In My Documents there are the two Direct access files I created.Documents does not seem to be a normal folder, and that's where I don't know enough about W7.Anyway this slow-running dates from when these appeared. I am not ruling out a virus but I can't see one which fits this description. How would you advise cleaning up please?I take backups of MY Documents but not of Documents. I don't want to risk deleting everything and restoring, in any case I have been using the system and there are new files.Thank you.Mike Gunner.
You may not like what I have to say but in my almost 20 years with using Windows (1995) once a virus hits it the best thing to do is to copy your data to an external drive, reformat your drive and reinstall Windows. I don't even try to copy my settings to transfer-I just over. Granted with Win7 recover from a virus attack has been much better and somewhat more productive but still if you are saying that there is still some weird or peculiar behavior after removing the viruses then its well worth considering a reformat and reinstall. In most cases this is the easiest and fastest thing to do. I don't think this is a virus problem. I have cleared viruses using Housecall, MS Security Essentials (some Trojans, and two remote access files), then Avast which found two IES temporary files.
Windows 7 Change File Type
Malwarebytes (Adaware and Bundleinstaller). There may have been others found. Getting rid of whatever problem these were causing was very good. But I think the immediate cause of the slugging was the 80 Direct Accesses which I had placed in Documents.
As soon as I removed these the system became nearly normal. I know exactly when that happened - when I was copying files for Direct Access. What I still understand is why there are all these paths shown in documents, to normal files.
What is Documents for anyway when it sometimes seems to be the same as My Documents?I had better get ready finding out how to reinstall. Lenovo has a toolbox, which always shows the security copy invalid and the Recovery Drive Q always full, but only 15 GB. Grove street gta 5. I am taking offsite backups of My Documents, and Mail folders but that won't give me a reinstall. I did not use xcopy. I right clicked on a file (or it seems maybe a folder) and either sent to the Desktop or created a direct access. I would then have dragged the Direct Access files to Documents, or intended to.
But Documents very quickly started filling up and somehow I stopped it, I cannot remember how.I found hundreds of files there including many temporary ones and I started deleting them but did not carry on because I was not sure how they had got there. Two days later (with the whole system slugged) I found that 80 of the files were direct accesses to normal files. I deleted those (they are still in the recycle bin) and immediately the system came more alice.I have found that these DAs all have a parent directory low down in my hierarchy, though the bottom levels are different.I did read of a virus which creates multiple copies of files and so I ran the various antivirus programs but nothing of that description was identified.
In any case the incident occurred when I was creating DAs.It seems that DAs with long target hierarchies slug the system. Now Documents shown long paths to many of my files. These are correct and I can open the files. I attach a sample image. I don't know what these are or why they are there.Clicking on Documents is painful because of the time it takes, and when I get the result I cannot see any subdirectories, only files. My Documents seems fine. Thanks very much. It's not urgent now though I was desperate.I do not know how to use the Lenovo recovery system which seems to fill up the small partition for it (15 GB) very quickly, when I have more than 250 Gb of data (partly due to a previous recovery which I haven't deleted).
